Job Accommodations for
Workers with HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS

This section includes an overview of how HIV/AIDS may impact a person’s ability to perform work-related tasks, and provides examples of job accommodations that enable these employees to meet their employers’ expectations, and succeed on the job.

There are three key points to consider regarding workplace accommodations for employees with HIV or AIDS:

  1. Businesses do not need to be concerned about an employee with HIV/AIDS giving the disease to co-workers --- HIV/AIDS is not easily transmitted!

  2. Most accommodations for persons experiencing physical or mental impairments from HIV/AIDS are “common sense” solutions that cost very little to implement and will not disrupt normal business operations.

  3. Educating employees about HIV/AIDS is a crucial step toward creating an accessible and productive work environment for all employees.
