Job Accommodations

One-Stop staff should be familiar with different types of disabilities and related job accommodations. Detailed guidelines on job accommodation strategies are provided in the Employer Support Section. To access that information:

At the Employer Support home page, click on “Disabilities at Work”. That section explains:

Impact of Employment on
Social Security Disability Benefits

Many job seekers who utilize One-Stop services also receive Social Security disability benefits, and a common concern among these individuals is how employment will impact their Social Security benefits. While it’s not expected that One-Stop employees become expert in the complexities of Social Security benefits, it is very useful to have a basic understanding of the different Social Security benefit programs in order to help recipients become more willing and confident in seeking employment.

One-Stop staff should be familiar with:

  • Differences between the two Social Security disability programs: SSI and SSDI
  • How employment and earned income impact SSI and SSDI
  • Basic information about Social Security Work Incentives: PASS, IRWE, Blind Work Expense, Student Earned Income Exclusion
  • Upcoming changes in the Social Security disability program under the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999
  • Resources available for additional assistance
